Zenobē Energy, a British company that specialises in energy storage, has started building a 1 GW storage facility in Scotland that will require approximately $886.5 million total investment. Blackhillock, Kilmarnock South, and Eccles will be the sites of the three utility-scale battery storage assets. The grid-connected projects are anticipated to be finished between 2024 and 2026.
The battery storage sites are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 13.4 million tonnes throughout their 15-year operational lifespan. They have been contracted to provide stability services to National Grid ESO (NGESO) in order to improve the reliability of the UK’s energy grid, which is increasingly reliant on renewables.
In September 2022, Inch Cape Offshore selected Vestas as the preferred supplier of wind turbines for the Inch Cape offshore wind farm in Scotland. The 1.1 GW offshore plant, which is 15 km from the Angus Coast, would have 72 V236-15.0 MW turbines. The agreement also included a 15-year contract for operations and maintenance. In the fourth Contract for Difference (CfD) allocation round in the UK, Inch Cape Offshore was awarded a CfD.
