Vestas, a Danish wind turbine manufacturer, has been awarded a 295 MW order for the Zhong Neng offshore wind project in Changhua County, Taiwan. China Steel Corporation (CSC) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners are working together on the project (CIP). It will have 31 Vestas V174-9.5 MW turbines with the capacity to power 300,000 Taiwanese households each year.

Vestas expects to start supplying turbines for the project next year, with the wind farm set to become active in 2024. As per the company’s statement, the turbines will be built domestically, with 19 components purchased from Taiwanese companies.  Tien Li Offshore Wind Technology’s wind turbine blades will be purchased from its Taichung Harbour factory. Vestas will also supply wind turbine maintenance services during the course of a 15-year service agreement. The latest deal between Vestas and CIP in Taiwan is thought to be the third.

In March 2022, Vestas signed an MoU with Ulsan City, its port authority, and Sejin Heavy Industries & Construction to collaborate on plans to create a 9 GW floating offshore wind complex by 2030. According to the provisions of the MoU, Vestas is expected to work with Ulsan authorities and Sejin to develop the necessary infrastructure for the project, including establishing a base for the manufacturing and export of offshore wind equipment.
