Energy trends focuses on the supply and demand of coal, oil, gas, electricity and renewables in the United Kingdom. Data is published a quarter in arrears by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. The latest update was published on December 23, 2021 which highlights the trends between July to September 2021.

According to the update, low carbon sources generated 51.5 per cent of the total in Quarter 3 2021, down 3.2 percentage points on the previous year. Renewable electricity generation was 17 per cent lower than the same period in 2020 at 24.3 TWh, equivalent to 35.9 percent of generation, a drop of 4.0 percentage points on last year when weather conditions – particularly wind speeds – were far more favourable to renewables generation.
