Total Eren, a leading renewable energy Independent Power Producer based in Paris, has announced the development of H2 Magallanes. This large-scale green hydrogen project will have up to 10 GW of wind capacity. It will be located near the borough of San Gregorio in the Magallanes region of Southern Chile.
The H2 Magallanes Project will include up to 10 GW of wind power, up to 8 GW of electrolysis power, a desalination plant, an ammonia (NH3) facility, and port facilities to transport green ammonia to national and worldwide markets. The aim is to perform research in order to start the project in 2025, with the goal of producing hydrogen by 2027.
Total Eren has also signed a collaboration agreement with the University of Magallanes, a renowned public university with extensive experience in engineering and environmental and social studies. Environmental and social studies, education, and research and development will be the three fundamental pillars of this public-private cooperation. Total Eren and the University of Magallanes will work on the development of the Project’s Stakeholder Engagement Plan, which will follow the best practices outlined in the Chilean Ministry of Energy’s standards guide.
