Total Eren, an independent French power producer, in partnership with Greentech- Angola Environment Technology plans to develop a 35 MW solar power plant in Lubango, Angola. The two companies have signed an agreement with Angola’s Ministry of Energy and Water (MINEA).

The solar park will be financed, built and operated by the two companies. Total Eren will have a stake of 75 per cent, while Greentech will have a share of 25 per cent in the project. The solar project is a part of Angola’s ambition to encourage foreign investment and to promote renewable energy development. The country aims to reach an installed capacity of 800 MW in the country by 2025. Further, the involvement of the national oil company Sonangol in the project is also under discussion.

The finalisation of the project agreement followed a detailed feasibility study carried out in close collaboration with the Angolan authorities and key stakeholders over the past few months. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the National Transport Network (RNT), the Institute for the Regulation of Water and Electricity Services (IRSEA) and the Public Electricity Production Company (PRODEL).

Earlier in November 2020, Portuguese multinational MCA Group announced the development of a 370 MW solar power project in Angola. Through MCA Solar Angola, the company will take part in the construction of seven solar power plants over the next two and a half years.
