At the end of 2020, distributed solar accounted for about 78 GW (30%) of the 253 GW of China’s installed solar generation capacity, according to data from the country’s National Energy Administration. The Iraq government has signed an agreement with Power Construction Corp of China (Power China) to build solar power plants in Iraq with a total designed capacity of 2,000 MW. By the completion of its first phase, the project will help generate 750 MW of electricity.

Chinese polysilicon producer Xinte Energy has secured a polysilicon supply contract with a new entity, Qinghai Gaojing Solar Energy Technology. Xinte Energy will supply Qinghai Gaojing Solar Energy Technology Co with a total of 152,400 metric tonnes of polysilicon from July 2021 to December 2025 with prices being negotiated monthly. It is estimated that the contract could generate revenue of approximately $2.6 billion over the four and a half year agreement.

Within two weeks of signing a 72,000-ton supply deal with Tongwei, solar manufacturer Trina Solar has cornered another 30,000-ton slice of the global polysilicon market. It has signed a deal to buy 30,000-37,600 tons of mono-grade polysilicon from Daqo New Energy, with the contract running until December 2023.
