IberBlue Wind plans to construct 1.9 GW offshore wind projects

IberBlue Wind, an offshore floating wind farm developer, has announced the development of two projects with 1.96 GW installed capacity off the shores of Spain and Portugal. The two plants, Juan Sebastián Elcano and Creoula, will be built offshore from Pontevedra and Viana do Castelo. With a combined installed capacity of more than 1.4 GW, Creoula will have 80 turbines with a capacity of 18 MW, compared to 29 turbines at Juan Sebastián Elcano, an offshore facility with a 522 MW capacity.

Statkraft signs PPA for 210 MW solar projects in Portugal

Statkraft has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with NextEnergy Capital’s photovoltaic fund NextPower III ESG in Portugal. The green energy will be obtained from three photovoltaic solar plants that are presently under building and have an installed capacity of 210 MW. The three solar farms, which are held by NextPower III ESG, are situated in the municipalities of Cartaxo, Casal do Paul, and Encarnado in the Santarém district.

Acciona Energía to supply renewable power to Grupo Violas in Portugal

Acciona Energía has signed a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Grupo Violas, a Portuguese firm. Under the PPA, Acciona Energía will supply 55,000 MWh of green electricity a year to Grupo Violas’ subsidiaries, which include Solverde, Clip and Cotesi. Rede Elétrica Nacional, the state power company of Portugal, will have issued certificates of 100 per cent Renewable Guarantees of Origin for the clean energy via its Entidade Emissora de Garantias de Origem platform.

Iberdrola receives environmental permit for 1.2 GW solar farm in Portugal

Iberdrola, a Spanish power utility, has received environmental permissions for the 1.2 GW Fernando Pessoa solar project in Portugal. The Fernando Pessoa project is said to be the fifth-largest solar photovoltaic plant in the world and is situated at Santiago do Cacém, near Sines. It will feature Prosolia Energy as a partner and is anticipated to go operational in 2025. During the construction phase, the Fernando Pessoa project will provide up to 2,500 jobs in the region.

Iberdrola launches 1.1 GW hydroelectric storage project in Portugal

Iberdrola, a Spanish energy company, has formally opened the hydroelectric storage project at Tâmega Gigabattery in Portugal. The 1.1 GW project was constructed over a period of eight years with an investment of more than €1.5 billion. Cepsa plans to reach net zero by 2050

Portugal to auction 500 MW of floating solar capacity

Portugal announced that it would conduct its third solar auction in September as it looks to allocate 500 MW of floating solar capacity. Through the current tender, which resulted in record-low prices, the country aims to support the deployment of floating solar on at least seven reservoirs through its next tender process. The proposed plants will be located next to hydropower plants so that existing grid infrastructure can be used. One of the selected dams, Alto Rabagão, already hosts a 220 kWp floating solar pilot project developed by EDP.

EDP renewables have announced that it will invest Euro 24 billion towards doubling its solar and wind capacity from 12 GW to 25 GW by 2025.
