GE to upgrade 500 MW Porabka Zar pumped hydro storage plant in Poland

GE Renewable Energy has secured a contract from PGE Odnawialna in Poland to replace four 125 MW pumped turbines and generators at Porabka Zar pumped hydro storage plant. GE Hydro Solutions will design, manufacture and supply equipment and provide the excitation and governing systems, as well as replace the 40-year-old turbines with new high-efficiency pumped turbines and motor generators. It will also replace the existing stay rings and stay vanes with new ones specially designed for Porabka Zar.

Amazon procures record 8.3 GW of clean energy in 2022

Amazon has recently announced that in 2022 it grew its renewable energy capacity by 8.3 GW through 133 new projects in 11 countries. This brings Amazon’s total portfolio to more than 20 GW—that could generate the amount of energy to power 5.3 million U.S. homes—across 401 renewable energy projects in 22 countries. With these continued investments, reportedly, Amazon set a new corporate record for the most renewable energy announced by a single company in one year.

Hitachi Energy secures two offshore wind contracts in Poland

Equinor and Polenergia have awarded Hitachi Energy two contracts for their MFW Baltyk II and MFW Baltyk III offshore wind farms in Poland. The two wind projects, which are situated in the Polish region of the Baltic Sea, will receive AC grid connection and power quality solutions from the company. The aggregate capacity of these two wind farms is more than 1.4 GW.

Vestas to supply turbines for 1.2 GW Baltic Power offshore wind project

Vestas, a Danish wind turbine company, has been chosen as the preferred turbine supplier for Baltic Power, a 1.2 GW offshore wind project in Poland. Baltic Power is being built by a partnership between PKN ORLEN and Northland Power. Vestas will deliver 76 of its V236-15.0 MW turbines for the wind project, which is located 23 km from the Polish Baltic Sea coastline.

Amazon expands its renewable energy portfolio with firsts in Brazil, India, and Poland

Amazon has added 71 new renewable energy projects to its portfolio, including its first renewable energy project in South America—a 122 MW solar farm in Brazil—and its first solar farms in India and Poland. EDF Group subsidiary EDF Renewables UK Ltd Renewables has inked an agreement with Budimex to make an investment in offshore wind farm development in Poland. RWE shortlists Siemens Gamesa turbines for wind farm in Poland

RWE, a German energy company, has signed an agreement with Siemens Gamesa to deliver offshore wind turbines for its FEW Baltic II offshore wind project in Poland. Siemens Gamesa will deliver 25 SG 14-236 DD wind turbines for the 350 MW project. A service agreement is also included with the order. Construction on the site is expected to start as early as 2024, depending on the final investment decision.

Iberdrola begins to develop Korytnica II wind farm in Poland

Iberdrola, a Spanish energy company, has started construction on the 50.5 MW Korytnica II wind farm in Poland. The plant, which is located north of Warsaw in the Mazowieckie region, would increase the company’s onshore wind power capacity in Poland to 163 MW. Advantage Africa: Low cost of producing lithium-ion battery precursors in the DRC

The objective of study is to determine the cost of producing lithium-ion battery precursors in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and benchmark the cost to that of the U.S., China and Poland. In addition to the cost, the study assesses the emissions associated with the production of precursors in the DRC for the global electric vehicle market compared with producing them in China and Poland. Building a 10,000 metric-ton precursor facility in the DRC could cost $39 million. This is three times cheaper than what it would cost for a similar plant in the U.S.
