Oman signs an agreement for $20 billion of green hydrogen projects

Oman has signed binding commercial term sheets for six projects involving green hydrogen that will require investments of around $20 billion. The Hyport Duqm consortium, Green Energy Oman, ACME’s Green Hydrogen and Chemicals SPC, and the SalalaH2 consortium will all collaborate on developing the projects. More than 700,000 tonnes of green hydrogen are anticipated to be produced at the plants, which will be close to the ports in Salalah in the south and Duqm in central Oman

Sembcorp Industries to construct 500 MW solar power project in Oman

Sembcorp Industries, based in Singapore, has been awarded a contract to build, own, and operate the Manah Solar II Independent Power Plant (IPP) in Manah, Oman. Oman Power and Water Procurement Company awarded the contract to the company (OPWP). The contract was secured through a joint venture formed by Sembcorp’s subsidiary, Sembcorp Utilities, and Jinko Power Technologies.

TotalEnergies and Veolia to build a solar desalination system in Oman

TotalEnergies and Veolia have agreed to start constructing a large solar project to power a desalination plant. Located in the city of Sur in Oman, the power plant will be located on the site of the Sharqiyah Desalination Plant. This project supplies drinking water to more than 600,000 people in the Sharqiyah region and is quite important for the region. This 17 MWp solar project will be the region’s first of its kind when it is installed.

ACME and Scatec partner to develop a green ammonia facility in Oman

India-based ACME Solar Private Limited has launched a 50-50 joint venture with Scatec, a company based in Norway to design, construct, build, and operate a large-scale green ammonia production facility in Oman. The facility’s initial phase is projected to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year, and it will be expanded to 1.2 million tonnes per year with around 3.5 GW of electrolyser capacity, which will be powered by a solar PV plant with a capacity of 5.5 GWp.

ACWA Power and partners inaugurate 500 MW solar project in Oman

A consortium led by ACWA Power has inaugurated the 500 MW Ibri 2 solar independent power project in Oman in partnership with the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP). Ibri 2 is located in Ad-Dhahirah Governorate and was built with a $417 million investment on a build-own-operate basis.  ACWA Power is the project’s principal investor, with a 50 per cent share.

Oman, bp partner to set up multi-gigawatt renewables and green hydrogen project by 2030

Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals has signed an agreement with British energy company BP to construct a multi-gigawatt renewable energy and green hydrogen project by 2030. According to the reports, bp will collect and analyse solar and wind data from 8,000 km2 of land as part of the agreement. The information will then assist the Omani government in sanctioning future renewable energy hub developments in the most appropriate areas.

ACME Group selects KBR for its green ammonia project in Oman

KBR has announced that its ammonia technology has been selected by the ACME Group for its green ammonia project to be built in Oman. KBR will provide technology license, engineering, proprietary equipment, catalyst, and commissioning services for the plant which will produce 300 metric tonnes per day of green ammonia. The plant will be an integrated facility using solar and wind energy to produce green ammonia. The facility aims to export green ammonia to Europe and Asia.

Oman forms hydrogen alliance to develop clean fuel industry

Oman has formed a national hydrogen alliance in order to build an industry for the production, transportation, and use of the fuel, which Gulf governments are increasingly turning to as a commercial opportunity to fulfil the global need for clean energy. Oman’s alliance comprises 13 governmental and private sector entities, including government agencies, oil and gas companies, educational and research institutes.
