Europe leads global offshore wind market: GWEC

Europe retains its status as the largest regional offshore wind market as of the end of 2020, but new installations outside Europe, predominantly in Asia, already surpassed Europe last year for the first time. This situation is likely to remain through to 2030, although annual installations in Europe may pass the milestone of 10 GW in 2026. In the near term (2021-2023), the majority of growth outside Europe will come from Asia – primarily China, Taiwan and Vietnam, with contributions from the US. Japan and South Korea will grow in importance from 2024 onward.

PGE selects advisor for 2.5 GW offshore wind project in Poland

PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA, a Polish utility, has chosen Societe Generale SA, a French bank, to act as its adviser in acquiring finance for the development of the 2.5-GW Baltica offshore wind project off the coast of Poland. After submitting a $2.2 million offer, Societe Generale was chosen in a bidding procedure.

Ørsted plans to link 2 GW offshore wind farms to green hydrogen network

Ørsted has announced plans to develop one of the world’s largest green hydrogen plants, powered by offshore wind, to feed industrial demand in the Netherlands and Belgium. Eneco and European Energy form a joint venture for Denmark offshore wind tender

Dutch energy company Eneco and Danish European Energy have formed a new joint venture called Swan Wind. According to forecasts, the US offshore wind industry is expected to deliver 25 GW by 2029. Of this, 9 GW has already been contracted or will be soon approved. EDF-Shell joint venture submits bid for offshore wind in New Jersey

Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind recently submitted a proposal to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities for supply of 2,300 MW of offshore wind energy. The company is a 50-50 joint venture between EDF Renewables North America and Shell New Energies US LLC. The state of New Jersey seeks to award between 1,200 MW and 2,400 MW of offshore wind energy capacity as part of its second solicitation.

France launches tender for 1 GW offshore wind farm

World’s first hybrid offshore interconnector inaugurated in Baltic Sea

Electricity system operators 50Hertz (German) and Energinet (Danish) have inaugurated a hybrid offshore interconnector, the Combined Grid Solution (CGS), to integrate both German and Danish offshore wind farms. This is the first such project of its kind worldwide and is being implemented in the Baltic Sea, connecting two offshore wind substations to each other as well their existing onshore connections.
