Agder Energi, GIG partner to bid for floating offshore project in Norway

Agder Energi, a Norwegian power company, has partnered with Macquarie-owned Green Investment Group (GIG) to bid for a floating offshore wind project in the North Sea’s Utsira Nord zone. Floating wind turbine on its way to test location in Norway

The prototype of the TetraSpar floating wind turbine, created by Stiesdal Offshore Technologies (SOT) and supported by Shell, RWE, and TEPCO, is on its way to its test location off the coast of Norway. The platform will then be linked up to the pre-installed mooring system by Bourbon Subsea Services once it arrives at its allocated place at the Metcentre site.

Shell to join Norway’s hydrogen project

Shell has joined a Norwegian initiative to generate blue hydrogen for use as a maritime fuel. Shell, Aker Clean Hydrogen company, and CapeOmega, a Norwegian energy infrastructure corporation, will build a manufacturing plant in the Aukra municipality. The hydrogen will be generated using gas from Shell’s terminal in Nyhamna, Aukra, where output from the Shell-operated offshore Ormen Lange field arrives.

Scatec starts construction of 55 MW solar farm in Ukraine

Norwegian company Scatec has grid-connected and begun commercial operation of a 55 MW solar farm in Ukraine’s Cherkasy area. The project will receive a feed-in-tariff payment and is estimated to produce around 64 GWh of electricity per year. The solar plant is designed to last for more than 30 years and it will also provide clean energy to over 28,000 families each year. This is Scatec’s fifth project in Ukraine since its entry in the country in 2017.

Norges Bank to acquire a 50 per cent stake in Borssele 1 & 2

The asset management division of Norges Bank, Norway’s central bank has confirmed that it will acquire a 50 per cent stake in the 752 MW Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm located off the coast of the Netherlands developed by Ørsted. Norges Bank Investment Management (NIBM) will acquire the stake for Euro 1.375 billion using no external debt.

Centrica Energy Trading to source 312 MW of renewable energy from Taaleri Energia

Centrica Energy Trading, a subsidiary of Centrica PLC, has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Finnish renewable energy developer Taaleri Energia for procuring renewable power from the latter’s assets in Finland. As part of a five-year agreement, Centrica Energy Trading will buy power from Taaleri Energia’s 312 MW of operational renewable power portfolio spread across 13 sites in Finland.

About 1,600 hydropower plants are distributed over the country, which at 385,000 square km is only slightly larger than Germany. Around 3.5 per cent of the electricity comes from wind power.
