Harmony Energy receives approval to build solar farm in New Zealand

Harmony Energy, based in the UK, has been granted permission by New Zealand’s Environmental Protection Authority to construct the country’s largest solar farm. The proposed 147MW solar farm in the Waikato region will cover 182ha of a 260ha land at Te Aroha West, 140 km off Auckland. Once completed, the solar power plant will be able to supply 30,000 houses with clean energy.

CIP and NZ Super Fund to set up 1 GW offshore project in New Zealand

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a Danish renewable investment group, has teamed up with the New Zealand Superannuation Fund (NZ Super Fund) to develop 1 GW of offshore wind capacity off New Zealand’s west coast.  The projected capacity, which will be located on the South Taranaki Bight, will be equivalent to more than 11 per cent of New Zealand’s current electricity demand.

Contact Energy to develop 150 MW geothermal power plant in New Zealand

Contact Energy has announced that it will proceed with the construction of the Tauhara Geothermal plant for an estimated investment of $418 million. The project will have an installed capacity of 150 MW and will be located on the Tauhara field, near Taupo. The company is set to begin construction of the project shortly and will expect to complete the project by the middle of 2023.The project construction will provide employment to about 500 people. Once commissioned, the project will generate 1,300 GWh of electricity annually.
