RWE wins tender for 400 MWh battery in Australia

RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, a subsidiary of German electric utility RWE, has won a competitive tender to build a 50 MW/400 MWh battery energy storage system in New South Wales, southeast Australia. In Balranald, New South Wales, the battery will be installed next to the 249 MW Limondale solar farm, which is owned by RWE. Limondale has 770 hectares and has been in operation since 2021. RWE expects to announce the project’s final investment decision by May 2024.

Construction begins on 60 MW rooftop solar storage project in Australia

In a 30-year agreement, Solar Bay and Logos will construct and operate 60 MW of rooftop solar PV and 150 MWh of battery energy storage to provide network and retail energy services to Moorebank Logistics Park (MLP) tenants in the New South Wales capital’s Port Botany. According to the reports, Logos will fund the construction, with Solar Bay managing the embedded network.

Greenspot, an Australian investment firm, has received approval from the New South Wales (NSW) Department of Planning and Environment for a battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The 500 MW/1,000 MWh project will be built on the site of the disused Wallerawang Power Station near Lithgow. An investment of about $280 million is anticipated to be needed.

Origin Energy, a leading Australian integrated energy company, has announced the purchase of the Yarrabee Solar Farm in New South Wales (NSW). The first phase of the solar complex, which will be located in NSW’s Riverina district, is expected to have a capacity of 450 MW. Sweetman Renewables Limited and Singapore’s CAC-H2 Private Limited have entered into a joint venture to establish a hydrogen production center of excellence. The center will be located in Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia. The deal amounts to an investment of AUS $15 million from CAC-H2, in return for 80 per cent ownership in Sweetman Renewables.

Precinct Capital and Edify have proposed a 28 MW battery storage project in New South Wales. The project is set to occupy 1.5 acres in the Mayfield Steel River Industrial Estate in the City of Newcastle. The battery will charge and discharge directly from the grid and is expected to improve stability as renewable energy use is increased. Further, the storage system will occupy 2500 square metres and will include supporting infrastructures such as climate-controlled energy storage enclosures and grid connection.
