LG Electronics exits the global solar panel market  

LG Electronics, based in South Korea, has opted to exit the global solar panel market in order to focus on other energy-related industries. The decision was authorised by LG’s board of directors in South Korea, citing the effects of rising material and logistics costs, as well as supply restrictions. In the future, the company intends to concentrate on other high-growth areas, such as energy storage systems and home energy management.

Siemens Gamesa plans to launch an offshore wind blade facility in Virginia

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has announced plans to develop its first US offshore wind turbine blade facility in Virginia. Siemens Gamesa will develop more than 80 acres/32 hectares at the Portsmouth Marine Terminal in Portsmouth, Virginia upon the execution of a firm order for the 2.6 GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Commercial Project with Dominion Energy.

Nordex receives 55 MW wind turbine orders from Italy

Nordex has received orders to deliver Delta4000 turbines to two wind farms in Italy. Nordex will deliver five N149/5.X turbines for one 26.1 MW project, while six N133/4.8 turbines will be put in a second 28.8 MW wind farm. A contract for the turbines is also included in the orders, which is for an initial two-year period with multiple 10-year renewal possibilities.

PHV opens solar manufacturing unit in Saudi Arabia

Spanish solar tracker and mounting systems manufacturer PV Hardware (PVH) announced the launch of its manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia. The factory will be owned and operated by the company’s Saudi unit, PV Hardware Middle East, and will produce PV trackers, mounting structures, and robotic cleaning devices. The products will be marked as ‘Made in KSA’ in line with the rules for domestic content recently outlined by the country’s government.

JinkoSolar to partner with Tongwei for project investment and industrial chain cooperation

inkoSolar has announced that it intends to sign a strategic cooperation agreement with Tongwei to jointly invest in a high-purity crystalline silicon project with an annual capacity of 45,000 metric tons and a silicon wafer project with an annual production capacity of 15GW. The company also announced that the deal will develop a more extensive industrial chain cooperation.As per the agreement, JinkoSolar will own a 35 per cent equity stake in the 45,000 tons high-purity crystalline silicon project. Tongwei will hold a 30 per equity stake in the 15 GW silicon wafer project.

Nel launches MC250 and MC500 containerised large-scale PEM electrolysers

Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser, a subsidiary of Nel ASA has launched the MC250 and MC500 containerised polymer electrolyte membrane electrolysers. The containerised MC250 and MC500 will be delivered as standard 1.25 MW and 2.5 MW (246 and 492 Nm3/h) configurations respectively. The new products are integrating Nel’s newly developed 1.25 MW PEM cell stack, allowing for higher capacities per unit and lower cost.

Italy’s FuturaSun opens its second factory in China

Two new production lines – supplied by an unspecified Chinese company – have doubled the site’s annual production capacity to 1 GW. The new lines will process 166-210mm half-cut cells for 2,120 x 1,050mm modules. One of the modules made at the site is a monocrystalline PERC product with a 60-cell dual-glass structure and power output of 320-330 W which was launched by FuturaSun in February.
