LG Energy Solution to build $5.5 billion battery manufacturing complex in US

LG Energy Solution, a South Korean provider of energy solutions, has announced plans to invest $5.5 billion in the construction of a new battery manufacturing plant in the US. The manufacturing facility, which will be built in Queen Creek, Arizona, will be the largest investment ever done in a standalone battery manufacturing facility in North America. It will have two facilities: one for producing cylindrical batteries for electric vehicles and the other to manufacture pouch-type lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for energy storage systems (ESS).

FREYR to deliver 31 GWh battery cells in 5 years

FREYR Battery, a Norwegian renewable energy storage company, has signed its first off-take agreement for at least 31 GWh of low-carbon battery cells with an unidentified energy storage system manufacturer (ESS). Based on FREYR battery cells, the two companies have committed to work together to develop unique technology solutions for the fast-growing worldwide ESS industry.

ESS signs 2 GW battery deal with SB Energy

ESS, based in Oregon, has agreed to sell 2 GWh of long-duration batteries to SB Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of SoftBank Group Corporation. The transaction is valued at least $300 million and the entire agreement will last till 2026. ESS has already delivered the first system an SB Energy’s facility in California.
