China Energy to launch $5.1 billion green hydrogen plant in Egypt

China Energy intends to start construction on a $5.1 billion green hydrogen project in Egypt in May 2023. Reportedly,  the Chinese investor will send a team from the company to go through the project’s details in April 2023. As previously announced, the project will be developed in two phases and will feature a solar and wind power plant, electrolysers for hydrogen production, ammonia synthesis devices, and accompanying storage and processing facilities.

Masdar, Hassan Allam and Infinity Power sign agreement to build a 10 GW wind project in Egypt

Masdar, along with its Dutch joint venture company Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to construct a 10 GW onshore wind project in Egypt. The project will be able to generate 47,790 GWh of clean energy annually as part of the country’s Green Corridor strategy, displacing 23.8 million tonnes of carbon emissions.

Rosatom, Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power sign contract for turbine island at El-Dabaa NPP in Egypt

In order to construct the turbine islands for the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project in Egypt, Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) and Rosatom’s engineering company Atomstroyexport have finalised a contract. Under the agreement, KHNP will develop 80 buildings and structures at the power plant’s four units. It will also take on the responsibility of procuring and supplying equipment and materials for the turbine islands.

ACWA and Hassan partner to develop 1.1 GW wind project in Egypt

ACWA Power, a Saudi energy company, and Hassan Allam Holdings, an Egyptian engineering firm, have signed a project agreement to develop a 1.1 GW wind project. The wind project will be constructed in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez and Gabal el Zeit region and will cost $1.5 billion. The project is scheduled to be financially closed by the third quarter of 2024 and operational by the end of 2026.

Azelio receives order for 20 energy storage units in Egypt

Azelio, based in Sweden, has won a conditional order from Egypt’s Engazaat Development SAE for 20 of its TES.POD renewable energy storage devices. The TES.POD devices will be financed, implemented, and maintained by a project business co-owned by Azelio and Engazaat Development SAE, and will be utilised in Egypt’s SAVE sustainable agricultural initiative. The order is worth roughly $1.5 million and is expected to be delivered in December 2021.

Egypt exploring the possibility of exporting renewable energy to Iraq via Jordan

The Egyptian government has announced that it is exploring the possibility of exporting some of its renewable energy to Iraq. For this, the government would have to construct new power lines to boost the Iraqi grid through Jordan. Further, Egypt will first have to increase the capacity of the electricity line that links it to Jordan. The submarine cable is 13 km in length and has a power rating of 400 kV. It crosses the Gulf of Aqaba, with an exchange capacity of 550 MW, and with an increase in the power of the line, the transfer of power should be possible.
