Sembcorp acquires a wind and solar portfolio in China

Sembcorp Industries, a Singapore-based renewable energy company, has acquired a 98 per cent stake in a 658 MW portfolio of operational wind and solar assets from GCN Capital Partners Infrastructure Fund III and its affiliates for $517 million through its 100 per cent subsidiary Sembcorp Energy (Shanghai). The assets are contracted and qualified for fixed feed-in tariffs under China’s renewable energy programme, and are located in energy demand areas such as Hebei, Henan, and Shandong provinces.

Octopus renewables obtains 24% stake in Simply Blue

Octopus Renewables has strengthened its position in the Irish energy market by purchasing a 24% stake in Simply Blue Group for €15 million. The move comes two weeks after Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust (ORIT) paid up to €145 million for a portfolio from Statkraft.

India’s ReNew Power to list on NASDAQ through a $8 billion deal

India’s leading renewable energy venture ReNew Power and RMG Acquisition Corporation II (RMG II) have entered into a business combination agreement to form ReNew Energy Global PLC. Upon the closing of this deal, the combined entity ReNew Energy Global PLC is expected to be publicly listed on the NASDAQ under the symbol “RNW”. This special purposed acquisition company (SPAC) transaction is valued at about $8 billion is expected to close in the second quarter of 2021.

Iberdrola enters Polish wind power market

Spanish multinational electric utility company, Iberdola has announced the acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in offshore wind company, Sea Wind. The two companies are set to jointly develop a project portfolio of 7.3 GW going forward. The move marks Iberdola’s entry into the Polish market and is expected to drive the company’s expansion.
