Equinor, bp bid to expand offshore wind project off New York

Equinor and BP have joined forces to bid in New York’s third offshore wind solicitation (NY3), having submitted a request to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The companies will compete in the NYSERDA auction for the Beacon Wind II lease area, which has more than 1.3 GW of potential clean energy capacity. Beacon Wind II, located 60 miles from the Long Island coast, has the capacity to provide clean energy to over one million homes in New York while creating ‘thousands’ of employment in the region.

bp acquires 40.5 per cent stake from AREH in Australia

The Asian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH) has reached an agreement with bp to sell a 40.5 per cent stake in the large renewables and green hydrogen hub. AREH intends to gradually expand the production of onshore wind and solar energy in the Pilbara region of West Australia, and achieve an overall capacity of 26 GW of solar and wind energy. This project will provide energy exports to countries like Japan and South Korea in order to serve the domestic Australian market.

ADNOC and Masdar to join bp’s UK hydrogen projects

ADNOC, a UAE-based energy company, announced its acquisition of a 25 per cent share in bp’s blue hydrogen project, H2 Teesside, during the design stage. Masdar, the Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company, signed a Mou to acquire a stake in bp’s proposed green hydrogen project, HyGreen Teesside. The project will now be advanced by ADNOC’s first investment in the UK, initially to the next level of design, the pre-FEED stage.

Vestas to stop all its four wind projects in Russia

In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Danish turbine manufacturer Vestas plans to halt four Russian wind projects. Novoalekseevskaya, Grazhdanskaya, Ivanovskaya, and Pokrovskaya are the four projects now in the development phase. They have a total capacity of 253 MW. Vestas was selected for these projects by a partnership that included Gazprombank of Russia and Fortum of Finland.

Equinor, a Norwegian energy company, has partnered with BP to transform the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT) complex in New York into a regional hub for offshore wind. The companies plan to develop the facility into an offshore wind port to accommodate their 3.3 GW of East Coast offshore wind projects. Sustainable South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SSBMT), the terminal operator, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) co-signed the agreement.

BP and HyCC to develop green hydrogen project in the Netherlands

BP has signed a collaborative development agreement with Hydrogen Chemistry Company (HyCC) to continue developing H2-Fifty, a 250 MW green hydrogen plant in Rotterdam’s port area. The companies signed the agreement following a feasibility analysis, which suggested the project could make a ‘critical’ contribution to decarbonising industry in the region.

Oman, bp partner to set up multi-gigawatt renewables and green hydrogen project by 2030

Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals has signed an agreement with British energy company BP to construct a multi-gigawatt renewable energy and green hydrogen project by 2030. According to the reports, bp will collect and analyse solar and wind data from 8,000 km2 of land as part of the agreement. The information will then assist the Omani government in sanctioning future renewable energy hub developments in the most appropriate areas.

BP secures 9 GW solar project pipeline in the United States

BP Plc has announced that it is set to acquire a 9 GW solar project pipeline in the US from developer 7X Energy Inc. The asset will be developed by BP’s joint venture Lightsource bp. BP will buy the project portfolio together with 1 GW of “safe harbour” equipment for $180 million. The purchase is expected to be completed within the next 30 days.The projects will be located across 12 states with the greatest concentrations in Texas and the Midwest. Schemes totaling 2.2 GW are expected to reach a final investment decision by 2025, with the balance progressing by 2030.

BP plans 1 GW hydrogen production facility in the UK

bp has proposed a large blue hydrogen production facility with a targeted capacity of 1 GW by 2030. The project, H2Teesside, would capture and send for storage up to two million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. The project would be located in Teesside in north-east England which is in close proximity to North Sea storage sites, pipe corridors and existing operational hydrogen storage and distribution capabilities.

BP plans to enter green hydrogen production space

BP plans to take its first steps into the burgeoning market for green hydrogen alongside the offshore wind developer Ørsted by developing a hydrogen project at one of its refineries in Germany. The energy companies plan to create the clean-burning gas by using renewable energy, generated by Ørsted’s North Sea wind farms, to split water into hydrogen and oxygen at BP’s Lingen refinery from 2024.
