Rosatom to build a 3 GWh lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Kaliningrad, Russia

The Rosatom State Nuclear Energy has announced its plans to build a 3 GW lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in the Russian province of Kaliningrad. The province is located between Poland and Lithuania along the Baltic coast. The lithium-ion batteries with be based on a technology developed by Enertech International, a South Korean developer. In March 2021, Rosatom acquired a 49 per cent stake in the company.

Canadian Solar’s majority-owned subsidiary, CSI Solar Co., has got a contract to supply a 350 MW/1,400 MWh fully integrated battery storage system to the Crimson stand-alone battery storage project in Riverside County, California. CSI will also provide EPC and long-term maintenance services as part of the contract.

Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures invests in Energy Vault

Energy Vault, the creator of renewable energy storage products announced new investment from Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures (SAEV). Energy Vault will use the funds to accelerate global deployment of its technology, which is designed to enable intermittent renewable energy generation to be stored at GW-hour scale both economically and sustainably, to deliver dispatchable power on demand. Sun Cable plans to construct factory to supply world’s biggest solar + storage project

Singapore-based manufacturer, Sun Cable has applied with the Development Consent Authority of Australia’s Northern Territory to build a facility that will manufacture Maverick solar array systems, designed by 5B. Sun Cable plans to build the manufacturing facility in East Arm Business Park in Darwin, which is close to the city’s port. Sun Cable reports that the construction of the project will begin immediately after financial close in October 2023, with commercial operations to begin in 2027.

Queensland aims to install large-scale batteries at substations

The Queensland state government has proposed installing five large-scale, network-connected batteries as part of a community battery trial. The batteries will have a cumulative capacity of 40 MWh and will be installed at substations in Townsville, Yeppoon, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, and Toowoomba. Energy Queensland-owned sites have been identified for this trial where there is high penetration of solar on the network and deployment can occur as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Wärtsilä will supply advanced energy storage solutions with a total capacity of 200 MW to Able Grid Energy Solutions. Energy Australia to build 350 MW battery to replace its coal plant

Energy Australia has announced that it will close the Yallourn power station in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley in mid-2028, four years ahead of schedule, and build a 350 MW battery instead. The 1,480 MW brown coal-fired plant currently produces about 22 per cent of Victoria’s electricity and is the oldest power station in the state. With the shutting down of the Yallourn power station reduce, Energy Australia’s carbon dioxide emissions are expected to fall by over 60 per cent.

Solar, wind and battery project worth $3 billion to come up in South Australia

The South Australia government has approved the planning of a wind, solar and batter storage project with a budget of $3 billion, called the Goyder South project. The project is being developed by Neoen, and will consist of 1,200MW of wind power capacity, 600MW of solar power capacity, and up to 900MW/1,800MWh of battery storage capacity. The Goyder South project will be located near Burra in Southern Australia.

While the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, on behalf of the Australian Government will provide debt financing of 160 million Australian dollar, Neoen will also hold equity. Highview Power raises $70 million for renewable energy storage projects in Africa

Electricity storage company, Highview Power has raised $70 million to distribute its solutions in Africa. The companies involved in raising the funds were Janus Capital, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, and the Spanish company, TSK. Janis Capital has also obtained a stake in Highview Power with an investment of $13 million. The initial investors and founders of Highview Power completed the round with a $5 million investment.

US Battery Storage: California, Texas Lead Amidst Widespread Growth

Energy storage capacity is set to ramp up at a rapid pace in the United States over the medium term. According to the US Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest Monthly Generators Statistics from November 2020, the country had just under 1,350MW of utility-scale battery storage capacity in operation, with LS Power’s 250MW Gateway Energy Storage System in California the largest project in operation.
