FRV secures $75.1 million of financing for two BESS projects in the UK

Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), a Spanish energy company, has reached financial close on two of its battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the UK. The two projects, Clay Tye and Contego, will be built in Essex and West Sussex, respectively. Under the project finance modality, FRV secured a $75.1 million financing package from Natixis CIB UK, which will cover more than 60 per cent of the total cost of the projects.

Longroad Energy, a US-based renewable developer, has reached financial close on Sun Streams III, a 285 MWdc photovoltaic (PV) and 215 MWac/860 MWh storage project. The Sun Streams III project, which is situated in Maricopa County, Arizona, is anticipated to start operating in 2024. Intersect Power, a US-based renewable energy provider, has begun commercial operations at Athos III, a 224 MWac/310 MWp solar project in Riverside County, California. Under the terms of the agreement, Shell will be granted the right to build, own, and operate the Wallerawang 9 Battery project (FID). The former Wallerawang Power Station site near Lithgow, New South Wales (NSW), will be used for the project’s construction.

CSI Energy receives 550 MWh battery storage order in UK 

CSI Energy Storage, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, has won a contract to supply up to 550 MWh of battery storage capacity to Pulse Clean Energy in the UK. The 550 MWh of capacity has CSI Energy Storage’s proprietary SolBank system and will be installed at several of Pulse’s locations. In the UK, Pulse has established a pipeline of grid-scale battery storage and energy optimisation projects with a combined capacity of more than 2 GWh.

Acciona Energía to acquire BESS project from Qcells in Texas

Acciona Energía, a subsidiary of the Spanish infrastructure firm Acciona, has agreed to purchase the Cunningham battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Texas from Qcells. No financial details have been disclosed.  The Cunningham facility, which is 55 miles from Dallas, is expected to come online in 2023 and will be the largest operating battery energy storage project in Texas.

No financial details of the deal have been disclosed. East Point Energy, based in Charlottesville, Virginia, is developing 4.1 GW of battery storage facilities throughout the US East Coast.
