Statkraft is implementing a 519 MW wind power project in northeastern Brazil, which will consist of 10 wind farms. The Ventos de Santa Eugenia wind project is Statkraft’s largest wind project in South America. This 519 MW project is the first stage of the total 1.1 GW planned capacity. Statkraft Brazil had acquired a 660 MW wind project from a local developer in 2019 and redesigned it to expand the capacity to 1.1 GW.  This was enabled by technological advancements in wind turbine technology.

The project will be located in the state of Bahia and will consist of 91 turbines. Statkraft has closed a turbine supply contract with German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex. The Nordex 163/5.7MW wind turbine will be utilised for the project, which have a diameter of 163 meters. Due to the excellent wind conditions in the area, the project is expected to generate almost 2.3 TWh of renewable energy per year.

The total investment cost for the project is estimated to be BRL 2.5 billion (NOK 4.2 billion). The construction of the project will start in January 2021. The first wind turbines will become operational in September 2022. The entire wind power project is scheduled to be completed by June 2023.
