Statkraft has signed a cooperation agreement with Aker Offshore Wind and Aker Horizons to explore the possibility of developing, operating and delivering energy from offshore wind projects in Norway. This agreement comes against the backdrop of the Norwegian government’s announcement regarding applications for licenses for wind power development in two areas in the North Sea, namely “Utsira Nord” and “Sørlige Nordsjø II”. The said cooperation plans to explore the possibility of setting up a bottom-fixed offshore wind project at Sørlige Nordsjø II (“SN2”).

The two parties will establish an integrated project team with equal partnership to jointly prepare and submit project application as well as work together on further development activities. Falling investment costs for offshore wind projects combined with the location of “SN2” project that can facilitate export of this power to other European markets presents an attractive opportunity to the two companies.
