The State of the Energy Union report marks, each year, the moment to take stock of change and of progress in the implementation of the European Union (EU) energy and climate policies, including the Energy Union across its five pillars, on the road to climate neutrality by 2050. This is a report from the Commission to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.

This year’s State of the Energy Union report thus takes stock of the Commission’s intense work with the other European institutions, Member States and its international partners on the EU response to the double challenge of achieving a fast, sustained
recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis and of climate change. Investing in the transformation of the energy system is part of the solution on the path to climate neutrality and a response to the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis.
