ScottishPower Renewables, a subsidiary of Spanish energy business Iberdrola, has commenced construction on the 1.4 GW East Anglia III (EA III) offshore wind farm in the UK. The project will be part of the 3.3 GW East Anglia Hub macro-complex, which will involve $7.9 billion investment, and be situated offshore off the Suffolk coast. The wind power facility will help the UK government achieve its goal of installing 50 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and will provide enough electricity to cover the needs of 1.3 million homes.
ScottishPower Renewables will initially focus on constructing the onshore converter station at Bramford in Suffolk for the EA III project. While the cable route will be established in cooperation with contractor NKT, the converter stations will be built in partnership with Siemens Energy and Aker Solutions.
In April 2022, ScottishPower Renewables received planning permission for its East Anglia One North and East Anglia Two offshore wind projects from the Planning Inspectorate of the UK. In October 2019, the company submitted applications for the two wind farms to the Planning Inspectorate for consideration. The following month, these were accepted for evaluation.
