The New York State Energy Research and Development Agency (NYSERDA) in the US has awarded three utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects to CS Energy, an Australian energy company. The three projects have a combined capacity of 270 MWac or 365 MWdc and were selected by NYSERDA as part of its fifth annual Renewable Energy Standard request for proposals.
These three projects include Yellow Barn Solar, a 160 MWac / 216 MWdc solar facility in Tompkins County, and the York Run Solar facility in Chautauqua County, whose capacity amounts to 90 MWac / 122 MWdc and the Stern Solar facility in Rensselaer County, which has 19.99 MWac / 27 MWdc of capacity. Construction on the locations is expected to begin in 2025 and be completed the following year. Furthermore, the projects will include single-axis tracking technology and bifacial solar panels. They will be able to produce more than 500,000 MWh of renewable energy each year, enough to power more than 70,000 homes and offset more than 257,000 tonnes of carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.
Earlier this month, NYSERDA awarded EDF Renewables North America a 1 GW solar and battery storage contract as part of its 2021 solicitation for large-scale renewable energy certificates. The Columbia Solar Energy Centre and Ridge View Solar Energy Centre, each with 350 MWac of capacity and 20 MW of co-located battery storage, are among the solar projects included in the contract.
REGlobal’s Views: NYSERDA, under its fifth annual Renewable Energy Standard request for proposals, is awarding 22 projects this year. With these latest additions, its large-scale renewables program will provide 8,000 MW of clean solar energy.
