The National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) and SolarPower Europe have collaborated to publish best-practice guidelines for solar power project engineering, procurement, and construction in India. The ‘EU-India Clean Energy and Climate Partnership” is supporting this initiative. The ‘EPC Best Practice Guidelines: India Edition’ is the result of a joint Indian-European EPC Taskforce that was formed in September 2021 and brought together 31 of the world’s top solar experts from both regions.
Reportedly, this India Edition of EPC Best Practice Guidelines includes key national occupational health legislation, ensuring all EPC service providers are aware of their responsibilities to their staff. The guidelines have included information on how to obtain the required environmental licences for solar PV projects. The guidelines also explain what bonds and bank guarantees EPC service providers must issue, emphasising important aspects of India’s financing system. Similarly, the guidelines have been revised to include Indian component quality standards and more detailed best practices recommendations for handing over monitoring software to O&M service providers.
The EU-India Clean Energy and Climate Partnership seeks to empower cooperation on clean energy and climate change between the two countries. NSEFI is an umbrella organisation for all solar energy stakeholders in India, and it works with the Central and State Governments on policy advocacy in terms of meeting India’s national solar target of 100 GW by 2022 and renewable target of 450 GW by 2030.
