Chinese manufacturer, Jinchen Machinery has announced the receipt of solar module production line orders of about 10 GW from India in 2021. Out of total orders, it has already installed 2 GW of equipment while the remaining capacity will be supplied over the next 2-3 months. The company also plans to open its office in Surat, Gujarat by August 2021, to serve its Indian customers. The office will be equipped with a spare warehouse and engineer team to support line installations. The company aims to set up a team of 50+ engineers by the end of 2021.
The list of manufacturers placing the orders included Tier 1 companies such as Waaree Energies, Vikram Solar, Tata Power Solar, Adani, Goldi Solar, Premier Energies, Solex, and RenewSys. Among these orders, Solex placed an order for 1.2 GW, and Adani signed a deal for 2 GWwhile information on other orders remains confidential.
In November 2020, the cabinet approved the production-linked incentive scheme (PLI) scheme for 10 key sectors to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities and exports under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. One of these sectors is “High-Efficiency Solar PV Modules” for which the cabinet approved a financial outlay of Rs 4.5 billion for the scheme over a five-year period. The policy is expected to catalyze a boom in domestic manufacturing capacity for solar PV technologies.
