The Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE) has invited the seventh round of tenders for renewable energy projects in Italy. The agency aims to allocate 3,312 MW capacity of renewable projects, which will include both solar and wind energy.
The agency has conducted six rounds of tenders for renewable energy facilities. In the earlier six procurement exercises, the agency has allocated a total PV capacity of 481.6 MW. The final prices for the PV technology ranged between €0.056/kWh and €0.064/kWh. The under-subscribed capacity which was not utilised in the previous six rounds will also be assigned in the seventh round of tenders. This amounts to an undersubscribed cumulative capacity of 2,485 MW from the previous rounds. October 30, 2021, is the last date to submit the bids. The final results of the tender are likely to be announced by January 28, 2022.
As of 2020, the overall installed power from renewable sources exceeded 55 GW in Italy according to IRENA statistics. This is the fourth highest capacity in Europe after Germany, Spain and the UK. It has over 22 GW of solar capacity and 10 GW of wind energy. Furthermore, the country has a target to install 50 GW of solar energy capacity by the year 2030.
