Intersect Power, a US-based renewable energy provider, has begun commercial operations at Athos III, a 224 MWac/310 MWp solar project in Riverside County, California. With its 448 MWh of co-located battery storage, Athos III can provide power for roughly 94,000 houses. The project generated 500 peak union employment during the construction phase. Reportedly A Intersect Power, the facility was constructed using union labour and US-made steel piles, batteries, and solar panels. It is anticipated that it would satisfy the Inflation Reduction Act’s requirements for domestic content and prevailing wages.
Intersect Power’s near-term portfolio includes 2.2 GW of solar capacity and 1.4 GWh of co-located storage. The remaining capacity of the portfolio is anticipated to go online in 2023. Intersect Power, a company based in Oregon, aims to supply “new and scalable low-carbon solutions” for the retail and wholesale energy markets. The company’s business plan plans for more grid-tied renewable energy production as well as considerable clean energy resources like green hydrogen.
In September 2022, Intersect Power secured $2.4 billion in financing commitments for four solar energy projects and a battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio. The combined capacity of the four solar PV projects would be 1.5 GWdc, while the combined capacity of the BESS projects would be 1 GWh. Reportedly, Intersect Power also announced the allocation of $675 million of previously announced commitments for developing and operating these projects.
