The growth of the electric vehicle (EV) market comes with the potential to completely revolutionize mobility, paving the way for a cleaner, low-carbon future. EV charging can be paired with on-site renewable energy generation – most commonly by co-locating EVs with on-site solar energy systems, and in some cases batteries, either with or without managed charging. Several utilities and charging station operators are experimenting with renewable and storage-based EV charging stations but are yet to establish a successful and economically viable model. At a recent conference, “EV Charging Infrastructure Asia”, organised by Global Transmission, Niels Leemput, Technical Manager, Sustainability Solutions – Asia Pacific, ENGIE Impact spoke about integrating renewable energy and storage in EV charging.
