Holosolis, a French renewables firm formed by EU independent body EIT InnoEnergy, has announced intentions to build a 5 GW solar photovoltaic (PV) module assembly plant in northeast France. The facility will start producing its first modules in 2025, and by 2027, it will be operating at its full 5 GW capacity. It will be located at Sarreguemine in northeast France, close to the country’s border with Germany, and will provide up to 1,700 local jobs.
Additional partners in the project include real estate company IDEC Group, which specialises in the rooftop solar market, and French solar developer TSE. The company specialises in agrivoltaics, the dual use of land for energy, solar power generation, and agriculture. The plant will produce solar modules for three markets: residential rooftop panels, commercial and industrial rooftop panels, and agrivoltaic modules. The companies involved have not said which technologies will be deployed in the plant.
In March 2023, Eoliennes en Mer Manche Normandie, a consortium of EDF Renewables and Maple Power, announced its plan to build a 1 GW offshore wind facility known as Centre Manche 1 off the coast of Normandy, France. The project company was announced as the winner of an offshore wind tender launched by the French Ministry of Energy Transition in January 2021.
