Hitachi Energy and Petrofac have joined forces to provide grid integration and associated infrastructure services for the offshore wind sector. The two companies will provide services to the market, with an emphasis on high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) solutions.

As per the statement, the two companies intend to deploy offshore wind projects efficiently by merging Hitachi Energy’s technologies with Petrofac’s offshore platform engineering, procurement, and construction capabilities. Hitachi Energy is also a supplier of grid connection solutions for alternating current offshore wind farms.

In June 2021, Hitachi ABB Power Grids was awarded a contract to provide Finnish nuclear power company, Teollisuuden Voima (TVO), with one of Europe’s largest battery energy storage systems on the island of Olkiluoto. TVO is building a third nuclear power plant unit on the island. Once commissioned, about 30 per cent of Finland’s electricity is expected to come from the plant and support the transition of the country’s electricity production towards carbon neutrality.
