Eunice Energy Group, a Greek energy company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with McDermott to collaborate on the Greece-Africa Power (GAP) Interconnector project. The engineering and construction guidance for the 2 GW electrical interconnection between Egypt and Greece will be provided by Mcdermott.

Egypt will be able to export surplus energy to Europe with the help of the 2 GW interconnectors, and Greece will be capable of selling locally produced green energy to Italy and the Balkans. This will help Europe become less dependent on Russian energy resources. By transmitting clean energy across continents, the GAP Interconnector project seeks to increase regional energy security and stability. Eunice Energy Group is leading a transnational consortium between Greece and Egypt on the project, which is said to be in both companies’ national interests.

In February 2022, McDermott secured a contract from TenneT for the BorWin6 high-voltage direct current project. The company agreed to provide engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning services for the 980 MW project. It would work on the project in partnership with Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute and C-EPRI Electric Power Engineering. Located 190 km from the German coast, the BorWin6 project would generate electricity from offshore wind farms before transporting it to an onshore converter station.
