Dominion Energy has been granted permission by the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) to build two dozen new solar and energy storage projects. The combined power generation capacity of the projects totals more than 800 MW, which is enough to provide green electricity to 200,000 homes in Virginia.
During the first ten years of operation, it is anticipated that the projects will save customers more than $250 million on fuel. The SSC has approved nine solar plants and a proposal for energy storage. These have a combined capacity of 500 MW. Two projects, Kings Creek Solar and Ivy Landfill Solar, will be built on previously developed land.
The SSC has also approved power purchase agreements (PPAs) with 13 independent developers’ solar and energy storage projects, totaling more than 300 MW in capacity. During their construction phase, the projects are expected to create new employment opportunities as well as more than $920 million in economic benefits across Virginia. Construction of the projects is expected to be completed by 2025.
In October 2022, Dominion Energy Virginia requested approval from state regulators for nearly two dozen new solar and energy storage projects with a combined capacity of 800 MW.
