Strengthening the transmission Investment Tax Credit (ITC) could further modernize our electricity infrastructure and rapidly deploy renewable energy. This could be done by lowering the threshold to 230 kV which will help the U.S. build out regional lines that are critical for connecting scalable electricity resources like solar with the customers that need it most. These mid-sized lines will have an outsized impact on solar deployment by freeing up many of the hundreds of gigawatts that are currently stuck in interconnection queues.

The factsheet “Clean Energy and Transmission” by Solar Energy Industries Association outlines the impact that lowering the threshold of the transmission ITC would have on clean energy deployment in the U.S.
