Australia headquartered beverage company Coca-Cola Amatil announced that it has joined the global RE100 renewable energy initiative with a target to power its entire operations across six countries through renewables by 2030. Further, it has targeted to achieve 100% renewable energy powered operations by 2025 in Australia and New Zealand. Joining RE100 follows the recent launch of the company’s 2020-2040 Sustainability Ambitions which includes a target to achieve net zero direct carbon emissions by 2040.

RE100 is led by the Climate Group in partnership with CDP and brings together more than 290 leading companies around the world that are committed to sourcing 100% renewable electricity. RE100’s mission is to accelerate change towards zero carbon grids at scale.

Coca-Cola Amatil has already started its renewable electricity program in Indonesia with the opening of Stage 1 of a large rooftop solar system at West Cikarang in Java. Considered to be the largest such installation in Indonesia, the project will cover an area of 72,000 m2, and generate 7.13 MWp of solar power during peak capacity during the day. The company is planning to expand its solar program to several manufacturing facilities throughout Indonesia, including Medan, Semarang and Surabaya. It plans to have an estimated solar energy production of 6,052 MWh in the first year.

The company has already undertaken three on-site solar projects in Australia. These projects are located at Eastern Creek in New South Wales, Richlands in Queensland and Kewdale in Western Australia and have a combined capacity of 3.5 MW. It is also implementing a 1.1 MW rooftop solar project in Fiji.
