Alternus Energy Group, a European independent power producer, has acquired a 64.6 MW solar project in Witnica, Poland from BayWa r.e. The sales agreement was signed between both parties in August 2021. The solar farm is located close to the German border between Poznan and Berlin and was completed earlier this year. Witnica is the first subsidy-free, PPA-backed commercial-scale solar installation in Poland.

With this acquisition, the solar park located in Witnica has become Alternus’ largest operational solar farm. Alternus Energy Groups cumulative capacity has also increased to 130 MW across 24 solar parks in five European countries with this acquisition. BayWa r.e. will continue to supply operations and maintenance services at the solar park. The deal aligns well with BayWa r.e.’s goal of developing and selling additional solar capacity in Poland in the coming years.

In June 2021, Alternus Energy Group acquired a 60 per cent share in Unisun Energy, a Netherlands-based renewable energy project developer. The company also acquired a 20 MW solar park LJG Green Source Energy Beta SRL in Romania from Risen Energy for $26.4 million in May 2021.

BayWa r.e. has an existing solar farm pipeline of 600 MW across Poland. It aims to develop 1.1 GW in the country across a span of the next five years.
