Avangrid, a US-based energy company, has started the construction of two solar facilities in Texas and Ohio. The combined clean energy output from the Texas True North and Ohio Powell Creek projects will be 523.5 MW. True North, which is being built in Falls County, Texas, will start producing 321MW of power in the early 2025 timeframe. The project is anticipated to provide more than 200 employment during construction.
It will also bring $40 million in benefits to Texas in the form of property taxes over a period of 25 years. Currently, Avangrid manages more than 1.2 GW of onshore wind capacity in the region. In Putnam County, Ohio, construction is underway on the 202.5 MW Powell Creek Solar Farm. Once operational, the project will provide enough sustainable energy to power more than 30,000 homes annually. Up to 400 jobs are anticipated to be generated during construction, and $38 million in local tax income is anticipated to be generated over the life of the facility.
Avangrid, headquartered in Orange, Connecticut, presently operates in 24 US states and has assets of over $41 billion. The company has a development pipeline of more than 25 GW and more than 8.6 GW of renewable energy capacity, which comprises solar, onshore wind, offshore wind, and battery storage projects.
