The policy briefing “ASEAN Decarbonisation Pathway: A Policy Review on Variable Renewable Energy, Electric Vehicle, and Smart Microgrid” has been published by ASEAN Centre for Energy. Progression of variable renewable energy, electric vehicle, and smart microgrid among the ASEAN Member States is facilitated through policy mapping. AMS have concrete policies and targets for variable renewable energy as part of their existing renewables implementation frameworks; solar power is expected to be a significant contributor to the total renewables generation.

The year 2030 is a crucial time mark for most member states to achieve their targets set for electric vehicles on the road and the availability of charging stations. Enabling an investment-friendly environment through clear policy direction and supporting mechanisms is the top priority for decarbonisation. Ensuring cost-effective energy supply through smart microgrid with digitalisation and battery energy storage system can be imperative components.
