Apple has revealed that the company has more than doubled the number of suppliers committed to using 100 percent clean energy over the last year, speeding up progress toward its ambitious 2030 target of becoming carbon neutral across its supply chain and products.

In total, 175 Apple suppliers will switch to renewable energy, resulting in the business and its suppliers bringing more than 9 GW of clean energy online throughout the world. According to Apple, these efforts will save over 18 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emission every year, which is the equivalent of removing over 4 million automobiles off the road. The firm announced the addition of ten projects to its Power for Impact initiative, which aims to offer renewable energy solutions to communities all around the world. These initiatives are intended to provide low-income communities with renewable energy while also promoting economic growth and social impact.

While Apple’s global operations are now carbon neutral, the corporation wants every Apple item sold to have a net-zero climate effect by 2030. Over the last five years, Apple has cut its carbon emissions by 40 percent. As of March 2021, over 110 suppliers had pledged to employ 100 percent renewable energy.

19 suppliers in the US, including Solvay, in Apple’s Supplier Clean Energy Program are scaling their use of renewable energy across their Apple operations. Similarly, in Europe as well, 19 suppliers are now part of the program, including STMicroelectronics. Meanwhile, in China, 50 suppliers are now part of the program and 31 suppliers have joined in India, Japan, and South Korea.
