Advanced Ionics, a US-based provider of next-generation industrial electrolysers that can produce green hydrogen for less than $1 per kg, has announced the completion of a $4.2 million seed round led by Clean Energy Ventures and SWAN Impact Network.

Reportedly, Advanced Ionics is aiming to decarbonize heavy industry, which is one of the most carbon-intensive industries, accounting for 20 per cent of all greenhouse gas emissions. Advanced Ionics provides a sustainable, low-cost alternative to ammonia and other energy-intensive chemicals, steel and machinery, filthy fuels, and oil refining in critical areas such as Europe, where there is a desire to reduce reliance on natural gas for climate and geopolitical reasons.

By integrating with industrial facilities and pre-existing industrial processes, Advanced Ionics SymbioticTM Electrolyser Technology reduces costs. Alkaline and membrane-based electrolyzers use a lot of electricity, often more than 50 kWh per kg. Advanced Ionics’ electrolysers work with onsite waste and process heat supplies, reducing up to 40 per cent of the typical electricity requirement, the dominant cost driver of green hydrogen production.
