Acciona Energía, a subsidiary of the Spanish infrastructure company Acciona, has announced plans to invest A$2 billion to build a wind farm in Queensland, Australia. The 1 GW Herries Range wind farm will be built within the MacIntyre Wind Precinct, which is located west of Warwick, boosting the total value of the precinct to A$4 billion. The project will increase the precinct’s capacity for renewable energy to 2 GW, which can power 1.4 million Queensland homes.

The Southern Queensland Renewable Energy Zone, which now has three wind projects, is where the MacIntyre Wind Precinct is situated. These include the 1.02 GW Herries Range wind farm and the 923 MW MacIntrye plant, as well as CleanCo’s projected 102.6 MW Karara Wind Farm. The Herries Range wind farm will include 180 wind turbines and will employ up to 600 employees during construction.

In September 2022, ACCIONA Energía agreed to purchase roughly 50 per cent of Singapore-based wind project developer the Blue Circle. In accordance with the conditions of the agreement, ACCIONA Energía would invest $34 million in the company and grow to be its largest shareholder. Additionally, it committed $113.5 million to finance the projects that reach ready-to-build status.
